Biography

Filmmaker NICHOLAS STOLLER's work is smart, clever and bittersweet. He is a filmmaker whose comedy is so real that his characters could be your friends and neighbors.

Stoller landed a deal with CBS to write and direct an untitled single- camera-comedy pilot. The project, loosely based on his real-life experiences, centers on a twentysomething commitment-phobic ad-agency executive (Michael Angarano) who, after breaking up with his girlfriend (Brie Larson), realizes he has to continue working with her one cubicle away.

Stoller reteamed with Jason Segel to write Disney's The Muppets, directed by James Bobin. The film won an Academy Award® and a Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Song.

Stoller wrote and directed Get Him to the Greek, starring Jonah Hill and Russell Brand, who reprised his Forgetting Sarah Marshall role. In the film, Hill's character struggles to escort rock star Aldous Snow (Brand) from London to Los Angeles for a comeback tour that begins at the Greek Theatre. Universal Pictures released the film in June 2010. Stoller also wrote a modern reimagining of "Gulliver's Travels," starring Jack Black and Emily Blunt.

Stoller made his directorial debut with Forgetting Sarah Marshall, an outrageous comedy starring Jason Segel, Mila Kunis, Jonah Hill, Kristen Bell, Bill Hader and Russell Brand.

Stoller also wrote the smash hit Yes Man. The film starred Jim Carrey as a man who turns his life around by saying "yes" to every opportunity.

Stoller cut his teeth in comedy writing for Judd Apatow's celebrated FOX television series Undeclared. He and Segel met during the run of the show and hit it off when they discovered they had a shared love for painful, heart-wrenching comedy. Stoller made the transition to screenwriting by doing rewrites on numerous projects and by co-writing, with Apatow, the Jim Carrey vehicle Fun With Dick and Jane.

Stoller, a Harvard alumnus who wrote for The Harvard Lampoon, was born in London and raised in Miami.
