Biography

Lav Diaz is a multi-talented director, writer, producer, actor, editor, among other roles. Prior to his contribution to the Seventh Art, he graduated in Economics from the Notre Dame University in Cotabato (Philippines). Moreover, he was a recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship in 2010, the Prince Claus Award in 2014 and the Radcliffe Fellowship of Harvard University, and he has been a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences since 2017. Diaz’s filmography consists of eighteen films, many of them being honored with distinct awards: From What Is Before won the Golden Leopard at Locarno in 2014, A Lullaby to the Sorrowful Mystery won the Berlinale Alfred Bauer Silver Bear in 2016 and The Woman Who Left received the Golden Lion in Venice. This list continues in 2022 with When the Waves are Gone, winner of the Venice Official Section (Out of Competition).
