Biography

He was born in 1908 in Plzeň. At the turn of the 20's and 30's, he began to work as an editor, photographer and film director (the movies Prague Ba- roque or The King's Way) and worked in film news in Elektajournal. He collaborated on the works of the Czech film avant-garde. Furthermore, he wrote lm reviews and book (i.e. The Book about Film). In the second half of the 30's he worked as Editor-in-Chief, Photographer and Director and the weekly Aktualita (Up-to-date News). He contributed to the foundation of FAMU (The Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague), where he had been teaching until he passed in 1977. His university course booklets Editing in Film and on Television are being published today again.
