Biography

Rafi Pitts' first feature The Fifth Season (1997) premièred at the Venice Film Festival. Sanam (2000) was hailed by French critics as the Iranian The 400 Blows. In 2003, Pitts presented his controversial feature documentary, Abel Ferrara Not Guilty in Locarno. It's Winter (2006) premièred in the Berlinale Competition, The Hunter (2010) also premièred in the Berlinale Competition, as well as his latest feature Soy Nero (2016). Born 1967, Pitts spent his childhood in Tehran. During the war in 1981, he fled the country and moved to Britain. He graduated in 1991 from Westminster School of Media, Arts and Design, and in the 1990s, Pitts moved to Paris and worked, amongst others, on films by Jacques Doillon and Leos Carax.
