Tatiana Huezo

Biography

Mexican-Salvadoran filmmaker. She gained international renown for her debut documentary The Tiniest Place (2011), screened at over 80 international festivals. Variety described it as “A profound expression of the twin powers of life and death…” Her work has received numerous awards around the world and has been recognized by the Mexican Academy of Film Arts and Sciences (AMACC) with six Ariel Awards, including Best Documentary Feature and Best Director for her film Tempestad, premiered in 2016 at the Forum Section of the 66th Berlinale. Tempestad was selected by AMACC to represent Mexico at the Oscar® and Goya Awards in 2018; for the latter awards, it was nominated to compete in the Best Ibero-American Film category. She directed her first fiction feature, Prayers for the Stolen, selected this year to compete in Un Certain Regard at Cannes, where it received a Special Mention from the jury. Huezo studied at the Center for Film Training (CCC) and has an MA in documentary filmmaking from Barcelona’s Pompeu Fabra University. She has given lectures and led workshops in academic spaces such as the Madrid Film School, UC Santa Barbara, Greenhouse in Israel, Georgetown University, and the CCC, among others. Her academic activities include coordinating the book El Viaje, rutas y caminos andados para llegar a otro planeta, published by the CCC and DocumentaMadrid.
