Biography
The career of Charles Vanel as an actor spanned more than three-quarters of a century and around 200 titles, particularly including Le salaire de la peur (The Wages of Fear, Henri-Georges Clouzot, 1953), To Catch a Thief (Alfred Hitchcock, 1955), Les diaboliques (Diabolique, Henri-Georges Clouzot, 1955), La mort dans ce jardin (Death in the Garden, Luis Buñuel, 1956) and Le feu aux poudres (Burning Fuse, Henri Decoin, 1957), for which he won the Zulueta Award for Best Actor at the San Sebastian Festival. In his career he only directed one feature, the silent film Dans la nuit (In the Night), which will screen in San Sebastian with live piano music composed and performed by Joserra Senperena for the occasion.
