Biography
Christian-Jaque (1904-1994) was a French director and screenwriter. He studied architecture, then in film worked first as a journalist, stage designer and architect. His directorial debut was the comedy The Golden Drum (Le Bidon d'or, 1932), and he later made films based on his own screenplays. Among his most successful films include Carmen (1945), The Charterhouse of Parma (La Chartreuse de Parme, 1948), Fan-Fan the Tulip (Fanfan la Tulipe, 1952) and The Black Tulip (La Tulipe noir, 1964).
