Biography
Wallace Shawn has appeared in many films, including “Manhattan”, “Clueless”, “Scenes from the Class Struggle in Beverly Hills”, “The Moderns”, and “The Wife”. He is the voice of Rex in Toy Story 1, 2, and 3. Wallace Shawn and Andre Gregory wrote and performed in the film “My Dinner with Andre”, directed by Louis Malle, and Andre Gregory directed Shawn in Chekhov’s play “Uncle Vanya”, which was then made into the film “Vanya on 42nd Street” by Louis Malle. Jonathan Demme has just filmed Shawn in Andre Gregory’s production of Henrik Ibsen’s play “Master Builder Solness”.
On television, Shawn was the Grand Nagus, leader of the Ferengis in “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine”. He appears regularly as Cyrus Rose on “Gossip Girl”. Shawn’s work as a playwright includes “Aunt Dan and Lemon”, “The Fever”, and “The Designated Mourner”, all of which have been done in New York and London and in Toronto at the Tarragon Theatre.
