Biography

Born in 1934, Higashi has shot many movies about women such as No More Easy Life (1979), Four Seasons: Natsuko (1980), and Keshin (1986). He won the Mainichi Film Awards for Best Director for The River with No Bridge (1992) and various film awards for Village of Dreams (1996), including the Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival. He also directed My Grandpa (2003) and Wandering Home (2010).
