Biography

Fernando León de Aranoa debuted with Familia (1996), for which he landed the Goya for Best New Director. With Barrio (1998) he won the Silver Shell for Best Director and the FIPRESCI Prize in San Sebastian, in addition to three Goyas. Los lunes al sol (Mondays in the Sun, 2002) won the Golden Shell and 5 Goyas, including Best Film and Best Director. Next came Princesas (2005), Amador (2010), A Perfect Day (2015), screened at the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs in Cannes and Goya for Best Adapted Screenplay, and Loving Pablo (2017). El buen patrón (The Good Boss, 2021) competed in San Sebastian and harvested 6 Goya awards, including Best Film and Best Director. He has also directed documentaries including Caminantes (2011), and Política, manual de instrucciones (2016).
