Biography

An independent filmmaker, creative and fantasist, Clemens Klopfenstein is born in 1944 near the Lake Biel. He attends the art school in Basel and Zurich before turning to film. Since 1963, he has had parallel careers as a filmmaker and painter. Full of humor, inclined to experimentation and innovation, and refusing the glibness of the commerical cinema, his highly original body of work comprises more than 20 films. He wins the Swiss Film Award in 1998 for Das Schweigen der Männer (1997).
