Biography
Maya Deren (1917–1961), a leading personality of avant-garde film, created works characterised by introspection, spirituality, and explorations of the human body in movement. Meshes of the Afternoon (1943), co-directed with her husband, Alexander Hackenschmied, is a key American avant-garde film.
