This poetic drama, based on a poem by Henrik Ibsen, marked a new line in the production policy of Svenska Bio: solid literary background, dramatic action, sharply defined leading characters, and natural settings. This story takes place during the Napoleonic Wars and depicts the effects of war on a young fisherman and his wife and their newborn child. They are cut off from food by the English blockade. The fisherman, Terje, makes a desperate effort to run the blockade. But he is captured by the English and imprisoned. He is unable to return to his village until after the war.
