The Dark Heart

Sanna and Marcus are deeply in love. They have grown up on two different farms, just a couple of hundred meters from each other, but at the same time worlds apart. Sanna’s father Bengt is very powerful in the small village, a millionaire and a major land owner. Marcus’ family are poor white trash and a failure to most: a failure the family blames on a conflict that runs generations back. When Sanna’s father Bengt realizes that his daughter is seeing Marcus, he decides to put an end to it. He threatens Sanna that if she doesn’t leave Marcus, she’ll lose her right to inherit the farm. Soon after that, Bengt disappears. The police investigate but Bengt is nowhere to be found. Two years pass but there is no trace of Bengt and the police seems to have given up. Sanna’s sister contacts Missing People and meets with Tanja, a mother and local beauty queen. Tanja gets obsessed with Bengt’s disappearance and quickly suspects Sanna and Marcus. Sanna and Marcus’ relationship is strained and on the brink of ending, and Tanja sees an opportunity: she makes contact with Marcus and wins his trust. Tanja tries to lure out a confession from Marcus. A dance with the devil, with her own life at stake. (Seminci - Valladolid International Film Festival)
