The confrontation at San Pietro was one of the fiercest conflicts of World War II. An Italian city, San Pietro, was taken over as a German stronghold where thousands of Allied soldiers were massacred. In this grueling, bloody battle, the 143rd infantry lost twelve of its sixteen tanks and over a thousand U.S. soldiers. The faces of the fallen are illustrated alive and well before battle gets under way - a sharp reminder of the gravity of war - but despite the unfortunate loss, the documentary emphasizes the resilience and honor of those who survived. The Battle of San Pietro, a unique and insightful WWII documentary, delivers an honest, unbiased look at the actualities of war. English War documentary about the war, which was - for the most part - filmed during one battle, where Americans suffered heavy losses. Especially the ending shows how senseless the war is and how everyone wishes it would end. But orders are orders, politics is politics. Ordinary people are not interested in that. ()
