Diane Court (Ione Skye) is a clever and gifted high school student who is charmed by Lloyd Dobler (John Cusack), a lovable but not particularly bright young man. However, Diane's father (John Mahoney) is anxious that nothing should stand in the way of his daughter's success. Romantic films have been quite a mess lately, but Cameron Crowe still has something special - mostly - and clearly had plenty of it at the beginning of his career. A beautiful film that doesn't necessarily strive for sentimentality at all costs, but is entertaining and features great performances, when today you wouldn't say that John Cusack was capable of something similar.
