The film takes place after the Thö¬köly uprising, among the outlaws debased to become brigands because of the pursuits and sufferings. The Polish lord of a sixteen-year-old boy is robbed and massacred by three bandits. Trumpeter is left alive because he is able to play the beautiful songs of the uprising on his trumpet. The film depicts his coming to consciousness. He calls Havrán, Bajusz and Jankó „my father and lord" and believes them to be freedom-fighters. He even kills the Lieutenant when he attempts to blackmail his supporters. Yet he understands less and less why they are robbing and raping peasant women unselected. The boy, who lost her mother in a similar way, eventually sends them to the executioner's stand, and himself becomes a refugee. (official distributor synopsis)
