Hiroshi Teshigahara's powerful masterpiece follows an amateur biologist who escapes the bustle of the city by studying beetles in remote sand dunes. After missing the last bus, he accepts a villager's offer to spend the night in a widow's shack at the bottom of a deep sand pit. In the morning he finds he is trapped. At first enraged, the man's hatred for the woman soon turns to searing, erotic lust. (official distributor synopsis)

English Sand is omnipresent and it is impossible to get rid of it. We constantly have to do unnecessary work because we are not able to reach what is important. Nobody helps us - not in a way that we could find something more, something better. Despite the problems, we try to find amusement in small things. Sex is not about beauty, tenderness, or love, it is an obligation, something natural, but not tender. And yet, we are able to survive in any environment. Man is a very adaptable creature and is capable of living even in moments when his world collapses. He can still hold it with trembling hands and not let it fall apart. An intense film with a strong message. More: http://www.filmovy-denik.cz/2013/07/pisecna-zena-1964-90.html ()
