Even though this is very straightforward and it's clear that it's going to try to squeeze emotions out of you, I still enjoyed it. Partly because Kathy Bates is just great and incredibly believable, and partly because of the great child actors. I don't buy the ending, it's too much of a happy ending for me, but otherwise, the film simply got to me.
