English The Emperor's New Clothes is one of those movies that can be watched without any concerns and will not offend the viewer. However, after watching it, they will say that could have been much better. This wasted potential is felt right after the initial exposition, where contrary to the traditional idea of stubborn historians that Emperor Napoleon died on the island of St. Helena, we follow the escape of the imprisoned monarch and his replacement by a double. This idea could have led to the development of a whole range of script tricks, it could have been a fantasy with a theme of alternative history - after all, Napoleon considered emigrating to Latin America and leading a revolution against Spanish colonizers, and it could have been a great comedy in the style of The Scoundrel, and last but not least, it could have been a beautiful love story of an aging man who no longer hoped to experience love free from power and intrigue. However, the screenwriter is hopelessly average in his profession and the same will probably apply to the director. In the end, a slightly amusing romance was created, which will be forgotten in a few hours, and the only thing it can boast about is the cast, led by Ian Holm, and above all, the soundtrack, which seems to have accidentally wandered into the film from some historical epic. So as not to be so strict, two scenes are worth remembering. The first one is where Napoleon comes alive in memories of past military glory and starts organizing employees of a vegetable company as if preparing troops for the conquest of a significant city instead of increasing turnover. And secondly, when he insists on his identity and is taken to a psychiatric hospital, where he meets dozens of other Napoleons. That is the only scene in the film that has a real atmosphere. Overall impression: 55%. ()
