John Q Archibald (Denzel Washington) is a Chicago factory worker struggling to make ends meet. When his son Michael is rushed to hospital after having a seizure at a baseball game, the doctors say the boy must receive a heart transplant as soon as possible. Lacking the necessary health insurance to cover the operation, John has no choice but to take the chief surgeon hostage, barricade himself in the emergency room, and demand that his son's name be put on a donor-recipient list. As the police gather outside and hostage negotiator Frank Grimes (Robert Duvall) attempts to diffuse the situation, the media begin an in-depth coverage of the siege and in the process turn John into a modern-day folk hero. English A rip-off of Mad City and a film without a proper idea to innovate its predictability in any way. That said, the performances are decent. In other words, average. Denzel is no match for the above mentioned Travolta and Hoffman. ()

English Had this film not been so dumb, it might have been watchable. It wasn’t filmed in a bad manner. But it’s dragged down by the convoluted plot twists, where we’ll see Denzel raiding a hospital after the first half hour of the film, because he is desperate, waving a gun in his hand like some wannabe boss. English John Q. is a simple, formulaic Hollywood flick about a father who is willing to do whatever it takes to get his son on the list of organ-donation recipients. It’s an overwrought sentimental fable that tries to move you with an ocean of moralistic, good-hearted ideas and fails miserably when it comes to intellect. And I won’t even comment on its disgusting rip-off of Gavras’s Mad City. ()

English Denzel in a perfect role as a father who will do anything for his son... I believed him every second so it really grabbed me by the heart. Sufficiently dramatic, emotional, sentimental... excellent. ()

English Full of pathos and sentimentality. There are a few interesting scenes, but otherwise a lackluster contribution. ()
