Yellowbeard is a pirate feared by whoever travels the high seas. A scurvy shyster and nautical scallywag in league with the devil. The kind of man who feasts on the hearts of his enemies and forces them to eat their own lips. After twenty years of being imprisoned Yellowbeard escapes to reclaim his treasure with the Royal Navy on his trail. But fate intervenes when he discovers he has an illegitimate son, a studious, academic land lover. (StudioCanal UK)

After a weaker opening half hour, in which only John Cleese's excellent blind man Pew and the cute jailer who announces his visit by smashing sticks into prisoners' backs are worth mentioning, Yellowbeard degenerates into an amazing avalanche of wacky ideas that are second to none. It all starts with a passage of several episodes of monitoring into the harbor and a perfectly pitched "Would you give three quarters for a piece of shit?" scene with a little girl, continues with a cruise, a not-quite-understood battle, and culminates in a massive skirmish on the island in which far more people fall than are killed. Four stars. Thanks for this movie. ()
