As a weary sailor named Jan sets foot on dry land, he is mysteriously abducted and awakens in the isolated mansion of Malpertuis. There, he is reunited with his sister Nancy and an eclectic group of distant relatives, each summoned by his dying uncle Quentin Cassavius. Cassavius wishes to will all of his heirs an equal portion of his fortune. However, in return, each must honor his dying request: They are to remain within Malpertuis for the rest of their lives, the last couple to marry. (official distributor synopsis)

The unlikeable Arian in the main role got on my nerves from the very first scene, otherwise, I’m satisfied. The atmosphere is superb, the showcase of weird characters and the scary building are a great combination that relentlessly attacks the viewer with increasing success (at the beginning, Malpertuis: The Legend of Doom House wasn’t that much fun, but it got better with every minute), and by the end it strikes with an interesting twist. I almost feel like reading the book version.
