Van Johnson plays a blind playwright living in London in this crackling mystery, overhearing distressing conversation that puts him on the trail of a missing child. I'm going to go pretty high here. For about 75% of its duration, this film has such a dense atmosphere that could almost be compared to Hitchcock's work, and I just enjoyed watching the character of the blind writer, wondering if he would uncover the truth. It also evoked Italian giallo a little bit, as if this film was an inspiration for Italians later on. A nice surprise.
