Plots(1)

Lucas Nickle (voice of Zach Tyler Eisen) is a ten-year-old boy whose family has just moved to a new town, and Lucas isn't enjoying it much. He hasn't made any friends yet, his big sister ignores him, his parents (Larry Miller and Cheri Oteri) are occupied with their upcoming vacation in Mexico, and his loving but slightly crazy grandmother (Lily Tomlin) is convinced space aliens are casing out the neighbourhood. To make matters worse, the local bully has found Lucas and is making his life miserable, so the boy looks for someone he can push around - and he soon finds a large colony of ants in his yard. Lucas takes out his frustrations by stomping, drowning, and burying the bugs, not realising that the ants see him as a threat to their safety and aren't about take his attacks lying down. Zoc (Nicolas Cage) is a 'wizard ant' who creates a formula that shrinks Lucas to the size of an insect, and the tiny boy is brought before the leader of the Ant Council (Ricardo Montalban) and the Queen of the Colony (Meryl Streep) to answer for his crimes against the ants. Showing compassion, the queen sentences Lucas not to death, but to live among them and see how difficult their circumstances can be. (Warner Bros. Home Entertainment)

English In all respects an average picture for young kids which, thanks to the “action" scenes and it being relatively short, can be lived through relatively problem free. Only the parts with the wasps are any good. The rest is a harmless or even uninteresting kids’ movie with a very forced lesson at the end. The third * is for the experience I had with the IMAX 3D version which clearly demonstrates what potential the future of movies holds in store. ()

English A pleasant adventure for the whole family that never disappoints. The animation is nice and there are quite a few funny moments, but I still can't shake the feeling that I've seen all this before... and better. 65% ()

English Excellent animated anthills, grass, water, and various present creatures in the story that is great to watch, especially if you have siblings next to you who are having a royal time. Classic aspects of a family animated film, such as an important grumpy male character (Zoc) or an infectiously optimistic or totally depressed pairing (here, in the first case, a bee and a strange snail(?)). Surprisingly nice thing that can lift your mood. ()

English A totally average animated film in all respects, with neither much humour nor an interesting story. Another variation on the "reformed bastard" theme we've seen a thousand times before. But thanks to the running time, it's quite easy to sit through. ()
