Kátay Kázmér is unemployed, so he wants to commit suicide. Suzanne is in the same situation: she would earn her bread in Budapest as a French governess. She jumps into the Danube, but Kázmér, who has found a place to sleep in a tow-boat, saves her. Patronized by Uncle Pepi, the steersman, they fall in love with each other. Kázmér gets a job as a valet and Suzanne is employed at the same house. However, it turns out that Kázmér is a count and is engaged. Finally the difficulties vanish and misunderstandings are clarified. Kázmér gets a decent job as a secretary and marries Suzanne. (official distributor synopsis)
