Lenke, a schoolgirl in Budapest, is in love with Sivány László, a middle-aged widower, owner of the estate in the neighbourhood of her own country home. She secretly follows him in Budapest, and they finally meet. Lenke is known to have a fiancé, Sándor, a young law student, who is the friend of Lajos, a would-be composer and Sivány's son. Sivány's wife, thought to be dead, turns out to work as a singer at a Paris night club. Sándor becomes engaged to Lenke, but, all of a sudden, Sivány seems to conceive a passion for the girl, which she reciprocates, and, to add fuel to the now amorous man's passion, starts to flirt with his son, Lajos. So far Lajos has been wooing Lenke's elder sister, Maria, yet now he wants to marry Lenke. Seeing her sister's sorrow, Lenke renounces her claim, and tries to repair the relationship between Lajos and Maria. In the end, when Sivány makes up his mind to propose to her, her own dream is also fulfilled. (official distributor synopsis)
