Plots(1)

A Soviet-American expedition sets out to Venus. One of the three ships is destroyed after colliding with a meteorite. However, although three ships are required to complete the mission successfully, the crews of the two remaining vessels make a decision to land and start exploring anyway, leaving one person on the orbit to maintain contact with the Earth. One of the crews lands in the middle of a swamp, so the other sets off to find them. (Moscow International Film Festival)

English советский красный карлик. Despite being deadly serious, the result is no less entertaining (but in this case in fact laughable). There’s even a pinch of A Journey to the Beginning of Time (prehistoric critters) and the politics reigning here is sort of Republican Space Rangers style. And they shoot at everything that moves. And even at what doesn’t move. Soviet scientists are simply unparalleled heroes and something like taking a blood sample from a brontosaurus tale is no problem at all for them. And when that male voice breaks into a stirring, Communism-building song at the end, deserved cult status is unavoidable. ()

English Planet of Storms is a fairly ambitious Soviet science fiction movie that contains quite a few iconic scenes, although the whole movie cannot be said to work together as a whole in a very satisfying way. However, if I had seen it as a child would probably have rather fond nostalgic memories of it because of the very good practical effects. ()
