A former tennis champ who has sworn off "Lady Tennis" forever, Gary has no aspirations outside of his lacklustre janitorial position at a Lincoln, Nebraska high school. Destined to a life of mediocrity, fate lends a hand when the school's revered tennis coach passes away and Gary is left with the near impossible task of guiding the current team – a motley group of charming misfits – to the state championships.
