Judge Jeanne Charmant is assigned the job of investigating and untangling a complex case of embezzlement and misappropriation of public funds, and bringing a case against the president of a powerful industrial conglomorate. As the investigation takes shape, as her questions dig deeper, she feels her power growing: the more secrets she penetrates, the greater her means of applying pressure.
