In the picture, it is very clear that it is from the beginning of the era of sound film because there are a large number of "silent" scenes here. The sounds are subsequently added, or music is used, which would quite fit into a Keaton-esque grotesque. However, this does not change the fact that there was an effort here and John Wayne is great, both as a young and older actor.
