HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER is a comedy about Ted (Josh Radnor) and how he fell in love. It all started when Ted's best friend, Marshall (Jason Segel), dropped the bombshell that he was going to propose to his longtime girlfriend, Lily (Alyson Hannigan), a kindergarten teacher. At that moment, Ted realized that he had better get a move on if he, too, hopes to find true love. Helping him in his quest is his friend Barney (Neil Patrick Harris), a confirmed bachelor with endless, sometimes outrageous opinions, a penchant for suits and a foolproof way to meet women. When Ted meets Robin (Cobie Smulders), he's sure it's love at first sight, but destiny has something else in store. The series is narrated through flashbacks from the future. The Lighthouse (2013) (S09E08)

English The eighth episode had little humor and too much Clint. One star goes to Robin and her egg opener. / Lesson learned: Don't let wandering musicians get into your car. ()

Platonish (2013) (S09E09)

English I might've welcomed the consistency in the creators' work if only it wasn't consistently subpar. The only part I genuinely enjoyed (and rewarded with a star) were Barney's challenges. Otherwise, I would be bored to death by Ted's relationship troubles. ()

Mom and Dad (2013) (S09E10) Boo!

English Yet another one of those pointless episodes. The plots were not only unfunny but also entirely unnecessary. The only silver lining was that it finally wrapped up the drawn-out saga of Daphne and Marshall, which had been bugging me most of the time. Everything else just screamed the creators' complete inability to churn out something meaningful. / Lesson learned: If you get stuck in an elevator, don't turn down any refreshments. ()

Bedtime Stories (2013) (S09E11) Boo!

English Who on earth thought this was a good idea? I seriously can't stand rhyming in shows... The creators went all out - aside from going full-on Shakespeare, they completely failed to deliver any good jokes or a meaningful storyline. I hate filler in TV shows, but when it also rhymes? That's just criminal. / Lesson learned: Take your kid to a fireworks display; at least they'll have some legit memories. ()

The Rehearsal Dinner (2013) (S09E12)

English I'm kinda torn on this episode. The plot was to the point, so no complaints there, but the humor wasn't exactly legendary. I couldn't shake the feeling that there was a lot more juice to squeeze from this storyline if the creators didn't get too fixated on the little monster, and if the big romantic moment didn't feel completely illogical. I'm not questioning the idea; it was solid, just not thrilled about its placement. / Lesson learned: When you're into Laser Tag, don't forget to bring your skates. ()

Bass Player Wanted (2013) (S09E13)

English The creators managed to shock me for the second time in the ninth season by pulling off an episode that wasn't entirely dumb. I even found myself chuckling. I did miss the reassurance at the end that no whisky bottles were harmed during filming. / Lesson learned: Don't be afraid to stand up for your opinion; no one else is gonna do it for you. ()

Slapsgiving 3: Slappointment in Slapmarra (2014) (S09E14) Boo!

English I knew a dip in quality was coming, but the extent of it caught me off guard. The episode revisited the long-standing slap bet, something I usually dig, only to turn it into a complete debacle. Honestly, both the content and the execution rubbed me the wrong way this time. / Lesson learned: Before a pub brawl, make sure to go on a one-year internship in Shanghai first. ()

Unpause (2014) (S09E15)

English I initially wanted to criticize the fifteenth episode, but I couldn't because truth-serum-drunk Barney was too great. This time, surprisingly, I didn't mind the more serious tone of some scenes and I enjoyed myself decently. / Lesson learned: The devil is in the details. 4*- ()

How Your Mother Met Me (2014) (S09E16)

English The creators are clearly trying to convince me I've been too harsh on them, but I'm not falling for it anymore. That being said, I did like this episode. Even though it was a bit light on humor, the new perspective worked for me, the drama made sense, and I was already a fan of Cristin Milioti. / Lesson learned: Life can sometimes make fun of you. Openly. 4*- ()

Sunrise (2014) (S09E17) Boo!

English Talk about ups and downs! Good thing I'm mentally geared up for these kinds of swings. Initially, I thought this episode might be saved by Barney's storyline, but it wasn't enough to outweigh the negative vibes from Marshall and Lily and even being disgusted by Ted. I'm just not a fan of those self-pitying types. / Lesson learned: Struggling with the dating game? Time for some training. ()

Rally (2014) (S09E18)

English The last episode was a letdown, but this one hit the mark. I definitely found the present more enjoyable than the quick glimpses into the future. Plus, it turns out that Neil Patrick Harris could pull off even playing a dead person. / Lesson learned: If you party till you drop, better schedule the next day off for your resurrection. ()

Vesuvius (2014) (S09E19)

English The pre-opening credits scene was great. Overall, the episode felt quite similar to the previous one (hence the same rating), and the little monster's tantrums didn't spoil it for me. When I watched the show years ago, I dropped it at the end of the sixth season, so for me, the seventh one is kind of like a fresh start. However, after this episode's ending, the creators seem to have some shady plans up their sleeves. We'll see but I've got my suspicions. / Lesson learned: Don't impose your feelings on others. ()

Daisy (2014) (S09E20)

English After a string of pretty decent to downright good experiences, here comes another letdown. This episode didn't bring any fresh ideas or laughs. The creators just went heavy on recycling their older and more recent material — another fight, Ted playing detective again, the Captain making a return, and yet another pregnancy. Oh well... / Lesson learned: Don't want to stumble upon someone else's waste? Don't go digging for it in the dirt. ()

Gary Blauman (2014) (S09E21) Boo!

English The wonder what the creators were trying to convey with this episode. Over the course of those nine seasons, they've delved into so many details that I can practically picture the color of Ted's stool after each meal. Then out of nowhere, a character pops up, and everyone seems to have some history with them, but I'm left wondering, "Who the heck is this?" Gary Blauman seems to be the go-to for any struggling or burnt-out screenwriter desperately trying to hit their deadline. / Lesson learned: Writer's block hitting hard? Throw in some Blauman. ()

The End of the Aisle (2014) (S09E22) Boo!

English I get it, this series isn't just a comedy, there's a romantic element, too. But what's up with the recurring theme of runaway bride scenarios? It's just ridiculous. Most of the characters were punchworthy. Marshall and Lily cranked up the romance to a level that made me queasy, and the humor took a back seat again. / Lesson learned: Patience pays off – you might even see the ring bear. ()

Last Forever: Part One (2014) (S09E23)

English I just can't wrap my head around it. How can the same team be responsible for both the absolute worst and the top-notch episodes? Do the writers have a toggle switch in their heads or something? This episode wasn't heavy on humor, but surprisingly, I wasn't bothered by it because the storyline made complete sense throughout. The creators didn't rip themselves off; I could really tell they put in the effort. / Lesson learned: Why do weddings feel so pointless to me? Here's a prime example. ()

Last Forever: Part Two (2014) (S09E24)

English Honestly, I was expecting to feel relieved as the series concluded, thinking I could finally put it behind me. The journey was far from easy, but to my surprise, the creators managed to conclude it with dignity in the finale. I was entertained and my expectations from the nineteenth episode were confirmed. It turned out to be a fitting farewell to the series. / Lesson learned: Wait for it. ()
