HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER is a comedy about Ted (Josh Radnor) and how he fell in love. It all started when Ted's best friend, Marshall (Jason Segel), dropped the bombshell that he was going to propose to his longtime girlfriend, Lily (Alyson Hannigan), a kindergarten teacher. At that moment, Ted realized that he had better get a move on if he, too, hopes to find true love. Helping him in his quest is his friend Barney (Neil Patrick Harris), a confirmed bachelor with endless, sometimes outrageous opinions, a penchant for suits and a foolproof way to meet women. When Ted meets Robin (Cobie Smulders), he's sure it's love at first sight, but destiny has something else in store. The series is narrated through flashbacks from the future. Benefits (2009) (S04E12)

English The episode was all about relationships, and surprisingly, I have a good feeling about it. The credit has to go to Barney, who managed to turn an otherwise snooze-worthy topic into a laugh-out-loud experience. / Lesson learned: Privacy is sacred. ()

Three Days of Snow (2009) (S04E13)

English The fourth season is back on those old tracks. This episode spent a chunk of time dissecting the ins and outs of Marshall and Lily's relationship, which seemed kinda funny at first, but as the plot unfolded and Ranjit made a recycled appearance, things went downhill pretty fast. Barney and Ted didn't exactly blow my mind either, so once again, it was just a dose of mediocrity. / Lesson learned: Watch out for the snowplow. ()

The Possimpible (2009) (S04E14)

English This episode was... "Tired" probably sums it up best. Even the flashback scenes, which usually get a chuckle out of me, fell flat this time. Barney had a few shining moments, but overall, it didn't amount to much. This episode didn't tick me off, but it didn't bring any laughs either. / Lesson learned: Check your mail. ()

The Stinsons (2009) (S04E15)

English After the lackluster last episode, this one was a triumphant comeback for Barney. Others tried to trip him up here and there, but with his mom's support, Barney kept me thoroughly entertained. The central theme of the whole episode was kind of dumb, yet hilarious, which is a recipe for success in my book. I'm just not convinced if the main characters can truly be called friends. That's not the way I see it. / Lesson learned: Stay on your toes. Always count on someone watching you. ()

Sorry, Bro (2009) (S04E16)

English The plot wasn't a total waste, props to Laura Prepon for a killer voice performance, but the whole thing got sabotaged by the funniest story ever. Yeah, Marshall's pants debacle didn't really do it for me. / Lesson learned: Limit the number of people who can meddle in your life. ()

The Front Porch (2009) (S04E17)

English If someone like Lily Aldrin showed up in my life, they'd be shown the door pretty quickly. I get it's just a TV show (often a crummy one at that), but this time I got really worked up. There are certain phrases that I straight-up hate and two of them push me over the edge: "It's gonna be okay" and "I did it for your own good." Robin's TV appearance was cool, but everything else just got on my nerves. / Lesson learned: There are only a handful of people in the world who can be trusted. ()

Old King Clancy (2009) (S04E18)

English What was the episode about, seriously? To me, it felt like a whole bunch of nothing. It was just plain unnecessary, not contributing anything to the series or even standing on its own. The plot was worthless, and as if that wasn't bad enough, I had to put up with Lily Aldrin playing detective, trying to gather information to spread it all over Manhattan later. / Lesson learned: Spin lots of lies and spill every secret, and you will have a lot of friends. Must be true, I mean, there's a show about it. ()

Murtaugh (2009) (S04E19)

English If it happens twice, it can be shrugged off as a coincidence, but three times? It's pretty clear now. I've got a personal beef with Lily's character, or more like an unusually strong aversion. She grates on my nerves in all her forms — a blabbermouth, a goody-goody, a meddler — all her qualities just rub me the wrong way. The episode was saved by ticking off tasks from both lists and, above all, Marshall as an extremely motivated coach. / Lesson learned: A stressfree upbringing seriously messes with my nervous system. ()

Mosbius Designs (2009) (S04E20)

English It seems like the creators got stuck in that same old rut, otherwise, I can't explain the poor quality. Most of the time, the so-called "humor" revolves around thirtysomethings acting like they're seventeen (and that might be pushing it). The episode had just two things going for it: the Barney/Marshall dynamic and the joke that worked like the perfect insecticide. / Lesson learned: Is a ninja after you? Well, tough luck. ()

The Three Days Rule (2009) (S04E21)

English "It was actually for his own good." This made me remove one star from the rating. Why? I have already explained that in several reviews before. Obviously, Lily was missed much more by the creators than me, and so Marshall took the fall, because Barney did it for the fun. However, the episode was otherwise surprisingly good, even though nothing could top the opening theory about Jesus, which really got me. / Lesson learned: Americans have rules for everything. ()

Right Place Right Time (2009) (S04E22)

English Gotta ask again, what was it actually about? To me, it felt like pointless filler, irrelevant to the story's progress. Ted's storyline was painfully dull, and just dragged on. Not even Barney could save it this time, and that's saying something. Total waste of time. / Lesson learned: Always put in maximum effort when making lists. ()

As Fast as She Can (2009) (S04E23)

English Most of the fourth season feels weak, like power water over a teabag that's seen better days. The writers couldn't think of anything better than to throw in Stella... but what's the point of her in the story? And why was Tony there? Why did I even bother watching it? The episode raised a ton of questions for me that I won't get any answers to, but zero entertainment. / Lesson learned: Don't go all out trying to prove something. The price could be too high. ()

The Leap (2009) (S04E24)

English Yaaay! Lily is back! Yaaay! The return of the most annoying character totally shifted the vibe compared to the last episode. However, my so-so rating isn't just about the little monster's comeback; the writing was weak like the defenses of a small-town dancer fresh off the Iowa bus in the big city. I'm used to Ted being a nuisance, but this time, the creators managed to erase both Marshall and Barney, and that's saying something. / Lesson learned: Are you going away for a while? Think about how you want to return. 1*- ()

Season 5 (2009) (S05)

English I only really enjoyed 3 out of the 24 episodes. The rest of them needed spicing up. The main reasons? The little monster, no new development in Ted’s life, a lot of wasted potential with Barney, and an uninteresting, boring or pointless plot in most episodes. Yes, sometimes it was a combination of all of the above, I’m afraid. / Lesson learned: If you don’t get your hopes up, you won’t have them crushed either. ()

Definitions (2009) (S05E01)

English Thought we might be in for a quality episode after the mess of the previous season, but nope, the little monster was at it again, roped in Marshall, and it all went downhill. Surprisingly, the otherwise unremarkable Ted stole the spotlight, with Barney kind of fading into the background. / Lesson learned: When someone tries to blackmail me, I turn into Israel. ()

Double Date (2009) (S05E02)

English The second episode had me cracking up – the whole doppelgangers thing was great, and the strip club scene hit the mark, as did Ted's repeated blind date, to my surprise. But the real joy kicked in when I rewatched that scene with the three final hiccups. I really savored that one. / Lesson learned: Learn from your mistakes. ()

Robin 101 (2009) (S05E03)

English The third episode didn't quite hit the mark for me, lacking that needed humor boost. Marshall was the only one rocking the laughs with his infectious enthusiasm. Thankfully, the little monster took a backseat this time around. Robin never really caught my interest, and Ted and Barney didn't exactly win me over with their course. / Lesson learned: Famous architects' wives seem pretty naughty. ()

The Sexless Innkeeper (2009) (S05E04)

English Luckily, I'm no sailor; otherwise, I'd be wondering if I've navigated these waters before. Wasn't exactly thrilled about this episode, but hey, I've gotten used to that a long time ago. Only the poems and Marshall's music-photography combo brought some goodness. Couple activities? They didn't just fail to entertain; they straight-up freaked me out. Ted was there, but I'm struggling to recall much about him, and it's only been five minutes. / Lesson learned: When it's sweatpants time, go for the Armani's. ()

Duel Citizenship (2009) (S05E05)

English At some point, the creators took a direction that seriously doesn't sit well with me, and they're sticking to it like glue, with occasional bright spots. This episode had its entertaining moments, thanks mostly to Barney, but it all got overshadowed by the relentless rampage of that pesky little monster. It's like she's working on Marshall, too, gradually turning him into a copy of herself. / Lesson learned: Avoid food that moves. ()

Bagpipes (2009) (S05E06)

English The bagpipes got me laughing almost as much as that time Marshall and Ted were eating sandwiches in college. Marshall's take on Barney's advice was an amusing highlight, but beyond that, there's not much else to rave about. The little monster was back at it, and the whole thing seemed more about relationship drama than comedy. / Lesson learned: Always weigh the pros and cons. ()
