Dexter (2006)

English The series has definitely become one of my favorites, although it’s true that I missed the old Dexter in the last two seasons - a cynical and emotionally empty narrator. It was his sense of humor, so dry that you shouldn’t use open fire in the vicinity, which perfectly complemented the great suspense and action. The amazing atmosphere was supported by an excellent score. Although I’m not a huge fan of this music genre, it fit here perfectly. ()

Season 1 (2006) (S01)

English The first season of this series completely absorbed me. Chilling moments alternated with perfectly cynical humor. I have an open relationship with the dark side of human nature, so I didn’t have a major issue with Dexter's character. Rita is a whole other story. ()

Dexter (2006) (S01E01)

English After a long time, I returned to the series Dexter to possibly change my original evaluation. Pilot episodes of series usually resemble the first round of a boxing match, where the viewer gets acquainted with the characters and there is cautious exploration, well, with Dexter it's a bit different. The plot started off nicely right from the start, there was no boredom at all, and the atmosphere, accompanied by a great soundtrack, was perfect. ()

Crocodile (2006) (S01E02)

English The previous episode was indeed more impressive, but I also very much enjoyed the second episode. There were no major issues in the plot that would ruin my impression, so I had no reason to decrease my rating by more than one star. Well, I thought I would be more critical as the years went by. ()

Popping Cherry (2006) (S01E03)

English In the third episode, the plot didn't fulfill me with too much enthusiasm, I enjoyed the flashbacks of Dexter's beginnings more, so the pilot episode is currently leading easily for me. What gave the episode some extra juice were ironically Dexter's life observations and comments with such dry humor that I had to be on guard to prevent the player from self-igniting. ()

Let's Give the Boy a Hand (2006) (S01E04)

English Even though I have many reservations about the plot of the fourth episode, I have decided to rate it with five stars for how the creators managed to connect the often morbid atmosphere, perfectly chosen soundtrack, and completely flawless humor (which many contemporary comedy writers could envy the series for). At the same time, I realized which character used to get on my nerves the most years ago (including the dubbing). ()

Love American Style (2006) (S01E05)

English "I had the impression that the fifth episode slightly deviated from the established standard. The plot mainly focused on two essentially supporting characters (Tucci, Castilla), and yet I still had a lot of fun (or perhaps precisely because of that). Additionally, Vincent Masuka got more screen time for the first time, and I only welcome that." ()

Return to Sender (2006) (S01E06)

English The story seemed to me in this case to be somehow better, Dexter had mostly been dealing with his urges (or lack thereof) until now, but two returns (Paul, Valerie) were enough and suddenly there was a quite understandable paranoia and emotional matters, in which an ordinary sociopath somewhat loses himself. Once again, the specific (and very dear to me) humor was not missing, so for me, it's a clear thumbs up. ()

Circle of Friends (2006) (S01E07)

English The seventh episode worked for me similarly to the previous one, except for Dexter's affairs, the creators once again focused on Rita's situation. I really enjoyed the politics at the precinct though. Sure, the element of surprise was lost for me, but I realized that it actually doesn't bother me at all. ()

Shrink Wrap (2006) (S01E08)

English With every episode, all plot lines seem to be better and better to me, you can tell that the creators knew what and how they wanted to present to the viewers and didn't solve it on the go, as unfortunately sometimes happens. The therapy sessions pleased me just as much as another portion of Dexter's dry comments. ()

Father Knows Best (2006) (S01E09)

English Although I have already seen the series once, I still greatly enjoy the gradual uncovering of the past, just like Rudy's intricate plan. As usual, I had a great time with Dexter again. It seems like I am a representative of the target audience for which the series was made. ()

Seeing Red (2006) (S01E10)

English The season is getting into a higher gear, which is a pure joy compared to other projects. Surprisingly, even the plotline with Rita's difficulties works well for me, even though Rita's character is among those TV characters that I just can't grow fond of (and the Czech dubbing in this case is extremely unfortunate). ()

Truth Be Told (2006) (S01E11)

English In the eleventh episode, there was actually only one moment that bothered me - Rita's speech to Paul in jail. This managed to annoy me quite a bit, but luckily everything else was so good that I was able to forget about that unfortunate moment fairly quickly. The chess game between LaGuerta and Matthews is progressing smoothly, and I'm enjoying it a lot. ()

Born Free (2006) (S01E12)

English The final episode of the first season did not disappoint me in any way, it came with a decent amount of tension, a very high-quality atmosphere, and a gripping plot. There was significantly less cynical humor this time, but the creators made up for it with Dexter's fantastic performance in the final scene, so I was completely satisfied. ()

Season 2 (2007) (S02)

English Even the second season failed to disappoint me. Yet again, the main storyline revolved around the search for a serial killer, affecting Dexter's life even more than the last time. Again, I have to highlight the well-written script, which did not force the creators to improvise unnecessarily, and even though they didn’t manage to avoid a few minor and major goofs, the season made a great impression on me as a whole. ()

It's Alive! (2007) (S02E01)

English The beginning of the second season was truly great. The creators first introduced us to a sociopath and his attempts to blend in with his surroundings so he could pursue his only passion, and now they have prevented him from accessing killing, watching the growing panic was a joy. I enjoyed it just as much as I did years ago. ()

Waiting to Exhale (2007) (S02E02)

English The plot of the second episode was interesting enough for me to rate it highly, but I had to deduct a star because Rita annoyed me so much that she ruined the overall impression. Especially her perfect deductive abilities, which quickly exposed Dexter's heroin addiction, got to me. That was such a stupid moment that I felt almost physical pain. ()

An Inconvenient Lie (2007) (S02E03)

English As for Dexter himself, the plot was a bit weaker this time, but the storyline around Agent Frank Lundy's investigation of the "Bay Harbor Butcher" has slowly started to pick up, and I enjoyed the patient work of the sergeant on his career progression, so the four pieces were definitely in place. ()

See-Through (2007) (S02E04)

English While watching the fourth episode, I happily chuckled the whole time and was firmly determined to give it a full star rating, because Dexter's comments were once again absolutely perfect and perfectly complemented all the more serious or depressive matters. But then came Lila's excursion and the star had to go down. It was such an immense stupidity that it was more of a waste of two pieces, so I was still lenient. ()

The Dark Defender (2007) (S02E05)

English The plot of the fifth part was not bad at all, it just lost some pace due to its focus on the past and various interpersonal relationships. There was no boredom this time either, so I was actually satisfied. I just missed some action and tension to make it perfect. ()
