The Cameroonian legal system is slowly starting to pay attention to domestic crimes. Such crimes are not necessarily acknowledged by the Muslim Sharia law or by the norms of the rural communities. Headed by a female judge, the court sessions convict people who consider physical abuse of a spouse or a child as just a way to blow off steam. "I beat her like I would beat my own daughter", cries the aunt of a six-year old. Many still think that marital problems should be handled at home.
