English Jane Eyre's ill-fated love has two trump cards. Toby Stephens and little Georgia Henley as little Jane. After all, this was the only time Henley could capitalize on her experience in the Narnia cycle, and it's a huge shame because she was adorable as a kid. Stephens, on the other hand, has already proven several times that classic adaptions suit him better than, for example, an anniversary Bond film. Onegin, Gatsby, Napoleon, Poirot, and Marple all offered him the ideal space for dramatic acting. So it's no surprise that even as a Rochester he can be very tasty. On the other hand, I find no other positives; this BBC dramatization is unimaginative, minimally engaging and Ruth Wilson in the lead role is barely adequate. I'll probably have to keep looking because I’ve only been able to accept Zeffirelli so far. ()
