Urban fairytale set between modern-day London and the religion-dominated future metropolis of Meanwhile City. The film follows four lost souls divided between the two worlds: Jonathan Preest (Ryan Phillippe), a masked vigilante detective who has vowed revenge on Meanwhile City's leader, Emilia (Eva Green), a beautiful young art student whose difficult relationship with her mother fuels her cynicism and suicidal tendencies, Milo (Sam Riley), a heartbroken thirty-something who remains fixated on his first love, and Peter (Bernard Hill), a deeply religious man who has come to London to search the streets for his missing son. Undercooked. Slightly better visuals and more "narrative" would have given Franklyn the juice it needed. But on the other hand, this is a low-budget directorial debut, so "technically" I guess it really couldn't have been better.
