Jo Stockton (Audrey Hepburn) is a bookshop worker with intellectual pretensions. Discovered by the editor of a top fashion magazine and asked to become the figurehead of a new collection, Jo is talked into going to Paris by magazine photographer Dick Avery (Fred Astaire), and they soon become romantically involved.
