English The film relies heavily on the fact that it takes place in a time when drama was practically at every turn. Japan decided to occupy Southeast Asia, but we don't follow the events through the eyes of soldiers; instead, we follow ordinary people who find themselves in a situation they didn't expect and can't deal with it in any other way than to submit. It's quite powerful in places. ()
