Whilst America was massing its forces at the beginning of World War 2, Britain had to keep the Germans at bay by mounting commando raids. To do this, the Allies created special task forces, one of which - the 1st Special Service Force - is destined for a raid on Norway. This force consists of Canadian and American conscripts and is lead by Lt. Col. Robert T. Frederick (William Holden), who has the daunting task of moulding this renegade group into a crack team of commando warriors. But when the Norway raid is cancelled, Frederick manages to persuade his superiors to give the commandos another assignment and volunteers them for a perilous attack on a Nazi stronghold in the mountains. English This is no Dirty Dozen, but it trying very hard to be like the Dirty Dozen. But instead of finding its own way toward achieving that, he it merely copies its elusive role model blow by blow. And although it is worse than its prototype in every respect, this is still an entertaining, unrealistic wartime action movie which is considerably better than the official sequels to the Dozen. ()
