Burt Lancaster stars as Elmer Gantry, a streetwise, fast-talking traveling salesman working the road in the 1920s in this adaptation of Sinclair Lewis's 1927 novel. Always on the lookout for the next moneymaking scheme, Elmer attracts the attention of a group of traveling evangelists, charming their leader, the saintly Sister Susan Falconer. Elmer becomes her smooth-talking preaching sidekick, plagiarizing speeches to promote himself above all else as he successfully exploits the folks of America's Corn Belt. English The film Elmer Gantry is absolutely well-acted, and the Oscars for both main actors are absolutely deserved, although I think you will remember Burt Lancaster more. I do have a bit of a problem with the film, though. Is it actually a criticism of fanaticism, or on the contrary its defense, which says that when we go together for one thing, we can achieve it? ()
