Plots(1)

Between somewhere and nowhere in the untamed West is the small town of Refuge. There, neither the sheriff nor his deputy carry a sidearm. There's no jail either, because shooting, carousing and bad blood are not in the town's character. What peaceful folks live there? Wild Bill Hickok. Doc Holliday. Jesse James. Billy the Kid. All long dead. All mysteriously given a chance to undo their violent pasts in Purgatory. All put to a stern test when Blackjack and his ornery gang ride into town. (official distributor synopsis)

English A strange mix of a western and a religiously oriented film that will please especially Christian-oriented folks, a combination of an entertaining adventure spectacle exactly according to proven genre Western templates with biblical themes. It is decently acted and directed, but it did not appeal to me in terms of content, as it sticks to the traditional genre outline and numerous genre clichés, while the religious motifs, on the other hand, are not for me. Overall impression: 40%. By the way, as a horror film, it really doesn't work... ()

English A pleasantly spiced up western. It may not be a masterpiece, but it was a better watch than many blockbusters with a mammoth budget. Apart from the main idea, I also liked the opening in the style of The Wild Bunch. Three and a half stars. ()
