The Experiment

Trailer

Plots(1)

Mario Giordano works with writer/director Paul Scheuring to craft this remake based on the notorious Stanford Prison Experiment. A team of scientists are conducting a psychological experiment that requires the participation of 20 subjects. The rules are simple: one group of subjects will be assigned the role of prison guards while the others will be assigned the role of inmates. Though the guards are specifically instructed to maintain order without the use of force no one is prepared for what happens when mutiny erupts and civility erodes. Adrien Brody and Forest Whitaker helm a fantastic cast. (Koch Media)

English The Experiment is a remake of a decent (though not excellent) German film that I watched a long time ago, so I will refrain from a closer comparison. It has several problems, like the original, it’s very predictable, you can accurately figure out what will happen next, even if you don’t know the original or, unconsciously, the real events from 1971. Then you have the unlikeable characters, even Adrien Brody, whom I usually don’t mind, here feels very unpleasant. And the third and most important complaint: if you can’t believe the development of the characters in a psychological thriller, that’s bad. If it was an original project, I’d go easier, but under these circumstances I can’t give it more than two stars – a remake that’s not better than the original, it’s not good. ()

English At least in the first one the Japanese had manners, but in Ip Man 2 the Westerners are portrayed as spineless assholes who deserve nothing but defeat. The ridiculous epilogue only confirmed the fifth. ()
