Plots(1)

In exchange for free drugs and cash, six friends agree to set up an aerial on the roof of abandoned tower block Mercy Point for local pirate radio station Locked FM. After successfully avoiding the authorities and breaking into the condemned building they begin an excessive night of drugs, booze and tunes. But Mercy Point isn’t as empty as they’d originally thought. There’s someone lurking in the darkness that calls this place home, someone determined to kill all trespassers. (StudioCanal UK)

English Basically, a slasher movie can work only if the following conditions are met: a) it has a likeable protagonist that you can root or fear for, or b) it has a charismatic villain. Needless to say, the ideal is when you get both in the same movie. So… the smarter ones among you would have surely got why I begin my comment about Comedown with that “theoretic” introduction. Yes, Comedown is one of those slasher movies that has neither likeable characters nor an interesting killer, which makes all other efforts futile. Technically speaking, it’s pretty decent and the confined spaces of a derelict abandoned block of flats also work, in theory, but the protagonists, who seem to have come from a social drama about the alarming condition of British teenagers, are terrible; it’s impossible to root for them. Overall, the movie is basically average, and I could give it three stars (the second half is quite fun), but I won’t because for me three stars is a “praising review” and, to be honest, I don’t think Comedown deserves praise.
