Failed actress Martha Madison (Martha Raye) and audience-shy actor Marlowe Mansfield Booth (Joe E. Brown) transform the college she has inherited into a drama school. Having trouble coming up with students, they try to put the school on the map by developing a winning football team, using the romance course taught by knockout Betty McGlen (Susan Hayward) to attract players from other institutions. When they can't find an opponent, Martha engages a professional team to play them, betting the school's creditor (George McKay) $1,000 that her heroes will score a touchdown--then making sure they will by bribing the pros, who allow the college players only so many TDs before they begin running up the score themselves. Then it's up to Marlowe, who has been acting as the coach, to perform the final on-field heroics. (official distributor synopsis)
