Mr Emmanuel is an elderly gentleman who has recently retired from his job on the Doomington Board of Guardians after 40 years. He is at a loss as to what to do with himself until he meets Bruno, a young refugee boy anxious to locate his mother in Berlin. After Bruno has attempted suicide, Mr Emmanuel decides to set off for Berlin himself to solve the mystery. However, whilst there he is blamed for a political assassination and arrested. (Park Circus)
