Nearly two decades after a terrible argument with his son Gabriel, Henry (J.K. Simmons) learns that his estranged son has been found wandering the streets in a daze. Gabriel is diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury that leaves him thinking he's still in 1968 and in the midst of Vietnam, acid tests and psychedelic music. Through a music therapist (Julia Ormond), Gabriel is able to express himself through the artists that defined a generation: The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Crosby, Stills & Nash and, particularly, The Grateful Dead.
