But yeah, sometimes it's quite fun and you can see that it rode on the wave of popularity of vulgar teen comedies, which began to appear more around the turn of the millennium. It's not surprising, the romance in it is almost unnecessary, the character of Van Wilder would work just as well, maybe even better, without it. It's somehow indebted to classic romantic-comedy structures.
