Austenland is a romantic comedy about 30-something, single Jane Hayes, a seemingly normal young woman with a secret: her obsession with Mr. Darcy -- as played by Colin Firth in the BBC adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice -- is ruining her love life; no real man can compare. But when she decides to spend her life savings on a trip to an English resort catering to Austen-crazed women, Jane's fantasies of meeting the perfect Regency-era gentleman suddenly become more real than she ever could have imagined. English Austenland is a decent romantic comedy by Shannon Hale responding to the Jane Austen phenomenon. Of course, its fetishization here does not reach the same proportions as in its homeland, but we can laugh all the more at the false obeisance to the Regency era. It's also certainly interesting to see how Jennifer Coolidge and Jane Seymour's comedic acting works alongside each other. ()

English Jane Seymour is still an incredible babe, even at the age of seventy. She is an amazing woman, and it was worth watching this film just for her. An American who wants to fulfill her dream of being in Jane Austen's world, albeit only through costumes and period furnishings. Essentially, it's a Disney Park for eternal spinsters who dream of their Mr. Darcy. In the end, it's a decent comedy that turns into a romantic nonsense. ()
