Traditional fairy-tale about three wishes gains burlesque momentum in the version by a trio of filmmakers, Dominique Abel, Fiona Gordon and Bruno Romy. Their previous films, Iceberg (2005) and Rumba (2008) were seen in Czech cinemas. Dom works as a receptionist in a hotel where Fiona checks in one evening. However, she comes barefoot, with no luggage, and she claims to be a fairy granting three wishes. After two of Dom's wishes are fulfilled, Fiona disappears. Having fallen in love with her, Dom sets out to find her. The directors and main protagonists utilize their theater roots, their experience with slapstick comedy, and films by Buster Keaton or Jacques Tati. The simplicity of the magical comedy is truly enchanting. (Febiofest)

English "Víla" is my first encounter with the trio Dominique Abel, Fiona Gordon, and Bruno Romy, and I must say it was a very pleasant meeting. I knew what I was getting into, which made me more interested in their film. The combination of dance, theater, and film with a touch of classic film tricks and above all, grotesque humor. An incredible mixture that, according to everything, should only work for art cinemas, but this is not a film solely for those with open minds, as some reviewers often say. On the contrary, in my opinion, it is a film intended for everyone because everyone can find something in it. Besides hearing beautiful French, which I hated learning, after a long time, I received another dose of imagination, playfulness, and visual and human beauty. Dom and Fiona may not be the most beautiful in the world, but the way the characters behave towards each other is something wonderful. The film may seem terribly simple, but that's the point. Why should it be complicated? Life itself is complicated enough, and the situations the heroes find themselves in are certainly not always easy. If you don't mind grotesque humor and appreciate a different style of humor than just conversational, "Víla" is the film for you. I think everyone can find something in it. I laughed out loud watching the film, which doesn't usually happen, at least not when I watch movies alone. I was truly enthusiastic about the film. A positive and beautiful experience. It's as if nothing truly bad should exist. More: http://www.filmovy-denik.cz/2012/08/warrior-x-ms-1-sibir-5x-rychle-zbesile.html ()
